Cuffley Village Dental’s Specialist Endodontics Team

We are extremely proud to have the exclusive BB-Endodontics team working at Cuffley Village Dental Practice.

Endodontics is the dental speciality dealing with the dental pulp that is in the centre of the tooth, often referred to as root canal treatment. Root canal treatment is a dental procedure designed to treat infection or decay that has occurred at the centre of the tooth. The process involves the removal of the ‘nerve’ also known as “pulpal tissue” or a previous root filling. The infected bacteria are cleaned and the root canals are disinfected and filled.

Who needs root canal treatment?

The tissue inside the tooth can become inflamed or infected. This could be the result of a neglected cavity, a large filling, or other damage to the tooth. When that happens the space inside the tooth can become filled with bacteria and become infected, causing swelling. This can often be painful.

What does a root canal treatment involve?

Treating the root canal requires removing the infected tissue, allowing the surrounding live tissue to be maintained. This is done using professional, highly specialised equipment, taking care to keep the area clean and disinfected. Once clean the space is sealed to prevent reinfection.

Do I need follow-up dentist visits after a root canal treatment?

After you’ve visited the endodontist, they will refer you back to your own dentist to restore the tooth with a crown or filling. It’s recommended to review the root about a year after.

How long does a root canal treatment take?

Most treatments take between 1.5 and 2 hours. We take special care to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.

Will a root canal treatment hurt?

The treatment itself is usually not painful. You might, however, experience mild discomfort after the treatment. But this is usually easily controlled with over the counter painkillers.
